On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my pleasure to extend to you my warmest invitation and welcome to the 7th World University Boxing Championship from October 3rd through October 8th 2016.
This year, Thailand has been chosen by the International University Sports Federation, based in Switzerland, to be the host of this event. The city of Chiang Mai is the designated site and Chiang Mai University has been proudly chosen as the competition venue.
Chiang Mai was founded over 700 years ago in 1296 and over the centuries has become the capital and cultural core of the Lanna Kingdom. Chiang Mai is now world renowned for its abundant culture, superb food, entertainment and a paradise for shoppers. Above all, it is widely known for its friendly people and numerous temples. Resultantly Chiang Mai has become a favorite tourist destination and is a major cultural attraction for Thai and international tourists.
Chiang Mai University is located near Chiang Mai International Airport and is also close to Wat Phra that Doi Suthep. This temple contains holy Buddha relics and is located atop a forested mountain that overlooks Chiang Mai,and is the city’s most important and visible landmark. Chiang Mai also has many other places of interest near the championship venue including the Royal Park Rajapruek, Chiang Mai Zoo and Chiang Mai Night Safari.
In October the weather in Chiang Mai is quite pleasant as the winter rains have ended, with temperatures ranging from 22-31 degrees Celsius, ensuring an atmosphere that is unique and delightful for your stay in Chiang Mai.
Should you wish to take advantage of this opportunity to explore Chiang Mai by arriving a few days earlier or to stay a bit longer, we would be delighted to help you with one of our special visiting programs. More details on visiting Northern Thailand will be available on our website soon.
Finally, I wish all athletes competing in this boxing championship their personal best and to all of our event visitors an unforgettable stay in the beautiful city of Chiang Mai.
